Red Carpet Gallery: stars at the 2009 Critics Choice Awards

Dubbed as one of the big indicators of the Oscars, last night the A list were out in force for the 2009 Critics Choice Awards in Los Angeles. Brad and Angelina, Amy Adams, Penelope Cruz, Kate Beckinsale, Anne Hathaway and Eva Longoria were among the stars who turned up to see who would snap up the first big awards of the season.
Anne Hathaway continues her almost flawless run on the red carpet in an edgy but fabulous black and white number from Gianfranco Ferre.
Her transformation into Barbie is almost complete! Poor, gorgeous Amanda Bynes seems to have been bit a little too hard by the Herve Leger bug. And don't get me started on the tan! Yes, she looks hot as hell, but this is hardly fashion-forward three seasons in. The bandage dress really only works if you wear it unexpectedly (see Winslet, Kate for details). Yawn, yawn, yawn.
In her favourite strapless silhouette, Amy Adams goes for the exact blue colour I predicted she'd wear at the Golden Globes. Well, I wasn't far off, and this classic Oscar de la Renta looks great on her.
Angie goes Goddess-like in her Max Azria floor-length number. This woman could make a sack look good, but I do wish she'd go for something more adventurous. Angelina goes from strapless to shapeless and back again...maybe something different on Sunday?
In a gold satin wrapover dress with perfect accessories (love those shoes) Elizabeth Banks gets it spot on. I'm not so sure about the ageing hairdo (been talking to Ken Paves, have we?) but the rest looks great. This colour is not always good on blondes, but she pulls it off.
Eva Longoria knows the cocktail dress works for her, and she's picked the perfect colour in this aqua Monique Lhuillier. The nude heels are a nice change from sparkly sandals too.
The time will come when Evan Rachel Wood wants to look younger, and she'll look back on pictures like this and wonder why she felt the need to put on quite so much blusher and liner. Her dress, however, is an improvement on the Goth look she uncomfortably sported on the arm of Marilyn Manson. I love the long sleeves and the glam embellishment. If this is not vintage, it's a great modern reworking of an old style.

Statuesque in fishtail aubergine J. Mendel, Kate Beckinsale looks more and more like her celeb pal Victoria Beckham every day. While I'm glad she's ditched the massive hollywood waves and unnecessary highlights, the sleek hair's doing nothing for me, even though it shows off the jewels. I want to shake her and tell her to loosen up just a little bit!
Showing off her, ahem, assets in a 30s style frock (don't quote me on this, but I'm going to bet it's vintage, or created from an old nightdress) Katie leaves the quirky to Zooey Deschanel for a night and tries out old-school glam. And I kinda like it (love the hair sans fringe)!
At Catwalk Queen we're always ranting on about people who play safe and don't take risks, so Marisa Tomei gets our vote for picking something that's very, very tricky to wear. Picking something that turns your tum into a target isn't the best idea, but I think she pulls it off (from this angle).

Sartorial standouts at the 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett, Christina Applegate, Kate Beckinsale, America Ferrera, Debra Messing, Ellen Pompeo, Amanda Bynes and Kyra Sedgwick were among the best dressed celebrities at the 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Newly wed Ellen Pompeo looked stunning in the velvet Nina Ricci gown and Fred Leighton jewels. Talking about her dress she said, "I saw it in the January issue of Vogue and said I have to have it!" Photo Credit: Chris Hatcher / PR Photos

Strapless gowns with long trains were favored by a lot of celebrities that impressed. A lot of stars chose to make their sartorial statements sans adornments. Necklaces, for example, appeared conspicuous by their absence. Similarly, hair styling was subdued.

Here is a pick of the best dressed during the event compiled by our fashion editor.

Ashley Tisdale looked elegant in a Badgley Mischka scoop neckline white chiffon gown with crystal and jet pinstripe beading around the neck, going around the waist and down front. Her long blond hair were enough to glam her up sans jewelry looks! Photo Credit: Chris Hatcher / PR Photos

The mom-to-be, Cate Blanchette, glammed it up with Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquiè²¥ strapless bustier dress with multi-colored flower embroidery all over, Fred Leighton earrings and bracelet and Roger Vivier black sandals. Photo Credit: Chris Hatcher / PR Photos

Kyra Sedwick wore a strapless body hugging blue L'Wren Scott cobalt silk crepe and Chantilly lace gown matched with diamond drop earrings. Photo Credit: Chris Hatcher / PR Photos

Sara Ramirez accessorized her satiny purple Angel Sanchez gown with jewels from H. Stern, Neil Lane, and Bochic. Photo Credit: Chris Hatcher / PR Photos

Debra Messing glittered in a gold sequined Oscar de la Renta sheath, a Neil Lane gold and colored diamond ring and rough cut diamond earrings. Photo Credit: Chris Hatcher / PR Photos

Kate Beckinsale in a tiered and ruffled bright yellow Luisa Beccaria gown, Roger Vivier Boite heels, and Van Cleef & Arpels vintage jewels. Photo Credit: Chris Hatcher / PR Photos

Christina Applegate dazzled in her Elie Saab silver sequined gown. Talking about her dress Applegate said, "I'm like a baby with shiny things! It's beautiful and it swishes on the bottom." She wore beautiful Neil Lane diamond earrings and a pearl bracelet. Photo Credit: Chris Hatcher / PR Photos

Jenna Fischer wore a blue studded Collette Dinnigan gown. Photo Credit: Chris Hatcher / PR Photos

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt tease the press at 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

Angelina Jolie and partner Brad Pitt walked the red carpet at the 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, The Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, January 27 looking in love and happy for sure.

What the press was interested in knowing was if Jolie is pregnant but by the way she was attired there was no telling.

She wore a dress that comprehensively concealed her body form, giving the press no chance to speculate about a pregnancy, or perhaps baiting it to do so.

For anyone who chose not to make a connection between her dress and the pregnancy rumors there was the intimacy and public display of affection between Jolie and Pitt to contend with while they sat at their table during the awards.

Angelina looked gorgeous in her flowing strapless vintage Hermes gown with a long train tie-dyed in earthy colors.

The sweetheart neckline dress was a welcome change from the blacks and greys that Jolie has safely stuck with during her recent red carpet appearances.

It wasn't an easy dress to carry off but we think she did it with aplomb despite subdued hair styling and makeup.

Brad and Angelina - they're the new Kelly and Billy!

OK, you American celebrities: stop this right now. We've already had Jessica Simpson looking like Jordan. The last thing we need is another Kelly Brook and Billy Zane.

Brangelina strutted their stuff at the Los Angeles premiere of Beowulf last night - well, it's been at least two weeks since either of them promoted a new film, hasn't it? - and "their stuff" looked very much like "Kelly Brook and Billy Zane's stuff".

Flat cap for him? Check. Rather dowdy, middle-aged outfit for her? Check. Overall a pretty badly dressed couple? Check.

The only possible reason I can give for this is that renowned Anglophile Brad has been tuning into Strictly Come Dancing of a Saturday night. And that Angelina has lost all her skills honed as a UN Ambassador and has started to acquiesce to Brad's dodgy sartorial taste.

Which are pretty tenuous reasons, admittedly. But you never know.

New Angelina Jolie for Shiseido advertisements

Did someone say Angelina Jolie? Come on guys, you should know by now I can't resist her wily charms...it's almost as if her appeal attracts both men and women. I thought Angelina was supposed to take a year long break soon after her St John adverts were released. But AJ's still as busy as ever, trekking with Brad all over the globe, popping up here and there with her entire orphanage of kids and turning out one beautiful advertisement after another. These particular Shiseido adverts are aimed at Japan - surely her beauty (definition, luminous bedroom eyes, and crystal clear skin) speaks to Japanese women, too?

Angelina Jolie's latest St. John photo-shoot: hanging with the animals

I'm more than slightly star-struck by Angelina, I admit it. She's gorgeous, and her black and white series of photos for the St. John F/W '07-08 have been absolutely fabulous. For example, the photo of her reclining, with two giant mastiffs looking on and her latest pose with a huge dark horse is just too cool. Seriously, how fabulous are these? The St. John strapless gown looks so regal with the wide waist band, and the long leather jacket and amazing eyes, could this be Lara Croft: The Quest of the Runwayedition. As always, AJ manages to look kick-ass yet fabulously sophisticated.

Angelina Jolie Wears Recycled Dress To Premiere

No, it wasn’t made from recycled pop bottles, but it did have a previous owner — and the dress that Angelina Jolie rocked out in at the U.S. premiere of A Mighty Heart only cost $26.

The crushed velvet gown was scooped from Vintage clothing store Wasteland in LA. The shop “is a mixing pot of used clothing from all era’s.” They carry mostly 60’s thru 80’s styles but also have some 40’s-50’s gems. Good on ya, Angelina — we need more attention paid to second-hand shops and used clothing nooks.

Celebrity Watch: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie at the premiere of 'Ocean's Thirteen' in Hollywood

Fresh after promoting the movie in Cannes, the star pair of Brad and Angelina do it again on native shores in Hollywood. Just as they looked effortlessly cool on the French carpet, so they do here.

The Ocean’s Thirteen premiere was held at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California. The film, directed by Steven Soderbergh, is a joint presentation by Warner Bros Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures. Ocean’s Thirteen, starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Andy Garcia, revolves around Danny Ocean, played by George Clooney, and his gang who must retaliate when a dangerous enemy seriously injures one of their team, making him fight for his life in a hospital room. In order to do this, they plan to get him back through his wallet by arranging a major theft on his new casino’s opening night and by destroying his image, leaving him with nothing.

The multi-starrer flick is a sequel to the previously successful films Ocean’s Eleven and Ocean’s Twelve. Fresh after promoting the movie in Cannes, the star pair of Brad and Angelina do it again on native shores in Hollywood. Just as they looked effortlessly cool on the French carpet, so they do here.

Pitt and Jolie make the ultimate Hollywood power couple. They both fill the cinema halls with beauty, charisma and amazing performances. They both stroll red carpets as if it were their living room. And they share a love of traveling impoverished nations with their children. There are couples you love to hate, but this isn’t one of them. Did we mention they never make a false fashion move?

Encore!
Jolie, with her hair pulled back, glows in a black sleeveless cocktail number and open-toed heels.

Boyfriend Brad does the same, dressed in a black henley, jacket and pants. A happier couple on the film scene we have yet to see. Angelina, who told People magazine in a recent interview that Pitt can mysteriously remove her from her shell during bath time, seems to revel in her newfound bliss. Hey, if we had someone like that scrubbing our back, we’d probably be smiling too.

The magic they made in Mr. and Mrs. Smith just keeps getting better and better. Always immaculately dressed and in step with each other’s outfits, the pair has nothing to prove and they know it.

Angelina Jolie in a Bikini

After all commitments and responsibilities, Angelina went on a break.

No matter how much we think that lives of celebrities are carefree, above all, and filled with experiencing life adventures, in the end the problems which they face confirm that we are not that different. Still, we are all just human. The only difference is that Angelina looks so good, and it can be noticed she looks great for her age, as a mother of a bunch of kids.

Whatever the case may be, you can glance at some photos of Angelina in a bikini in the PHOTOGALLERY, which is rare – therefore enjoy!

Celebrity Watch: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in Cannes

Brad gets down to business, dressed in a conservative gray suit, white oxford shirt, and smoky brown Ray-Bans. Jolie complements him perfectly in a brown short-sleeve summer top, a black pencil skirt, peep-toe heels and aviator shades! Seriously chic!

The Cannes film festival, the most prestigious of festivals, recently screened A Mighty Heart, a film based on the book by Mariane Pearl describing her late husband Daniel’s research efforts on terrorism in Pakistan before being murdered in 2002. The film stars Angelina Jolie, is produced by boyfriend Brad Pitt and directed by UK director Michael Winterbottom. It received a warm reception during screening, to say the least. The beautiful pair was accompanied by Mariane Pearl, who appreciated the film and their work in it. Pitt was incidentally also promoting another film of his, Ocean’s Thirteen.

Tres Jolie
While we missed them at Oscars, the item certainly make up for lost time in this telling portrait of the duo at work. Never losing sight of the fact that the world is an eternal red carpet for such high-profile stars, Pitt hits it right as does girlfriend and former Academy Award winner Jolie.

Brad gets down to business, dressed in a conservative gray suit, white oxford shirt, and smoky brown Ray-Bans. The outfit says, serious but not stuffy. Trendy but not taking it too far. He doesn’t shout out his movie star status and instead wisely steps aside to support the movie’s somber theme. Jolie complements him perfectly in a brown short-sleeve summer top, a black pencil skirt, peep-toe heels and aviator shades! Seriously chic. What we love about her outfit is that it goes quite well with her partner’s, but doesn’t totally blend in. If this isn’t a Mr. and Mrs. Smith moment, we don’t know what is. One could certainly picture them walking down midtown Manhattan in this look, and fairly easily we might add:
Five stars for a look well played!

Celebrity Watch: Brad Pitt picks up Pax and Zahara from nursery

"It didn't matter to me as much to have somebody committed to me but it mattered a great deal to me if they committed to my child," Angelina Jolie told Readers Digest. Truly, Brad Pitt is her man.

Despite the immense paparazzi pressure Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, on a short stay in a faraway county, lead their life as much like American parents as the circumstances allow them to.
Here Brad Pitt is seen picking up Zahara, 2, and Pax Thien, 4, from the kindergarten within the city's American Embassy compound in Prague, Czech Republic.

Five-year-old Maddox attends school at the "Lycee francais" of Prague while Shiloh, nearly one year now, stays at home.

Earlier two Polish photographers were checked by the police and the Jolie-Pitt security team for having taken photographs of Brad and Angelina Jolie's children inside their villa in Prague.

The couple with their four children arrived in Prague on 01 May 2007 and is expected to stay there for four weeks. They plan to hop across to France to attend Cannes Film festival, which takes place from May 16 to May 27, to promote Ocean's Thirteen and A Mighty Heart.

They will be back in the US early next month and will attend the premiers of the Ocean's Thirteen in New York and A Mighty Heart in LA.

Incidentally, Shiloh's birthday is coming up on 27 May 2006. Will the couple still be in Cannes then?

Angelina Jolie models for Japanese cosmetic company Shiseido

Angelina Jolie is leveraging her popularity and good image in Asia to promote cosmetics in Japan.

The Hollywood star is well known in the region on account of her charity work there and adoption of a child each from Cambodia (Maddox, 2002) and Vietnam (Pax Thien, 2007).

Jolie is all set to appear in campaigns for Japanese hair care and cosmetics producer Shiseido which claims to be the oldest cosmetics company in the world.

According to WWD, she recently flew to Los Angles to shoot for Shiseido's powder eye color and liquid eye color. The campaigns are exclusively for the Japanese market and will never be seen in the US.

It is unclear whether Jolie intends to give the money earned from her modeling to charity as she is so often inclined to do.

Jolie is currently in Prague, Czech Republic, along with Bard Pitt and her four children. She is shooting for the film Wanted which features her with Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy.

The couple with their four children arrived in Prague on 01 May 2007 and are expected to stay there for four weeks. They are likely to hop across to France to attend Cannes Film festival which takes place from May 16 to May 27.
